WCB Physiotherapy in Winnipeg: How St. James Rehab Supports Your Recovery

A workplace injury can leave you managing pain, missed shifts and unfamiliar paperwork. At St.James Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy Center, we help you understand the physiotherapy side of your WCB claim while working towards a safe return to your everyday activities and job duties.

Our team brings extensive experience supporting injured Winnipeg workers through WCB claims and rehabilitation. From your first assessment to progress reviews, we focus on practical goals and clear communication.

Helping you get started with WCB physiotherapy

When you contact St. James Rehab, tell us that your injury happened at work and whether you have reported it to the Workers Compensation Board of Manitoba.

We can help clarify the claim information needed for your appointment, discuss billing arrangements and explain what to expect during your assessment.

WCB determines claim eligibility and treatment coverage. Physiotherapy requires WCB approval, so coverage should be confirmed before treatment begins. Our role is to provide clinical assessment, rehabilitation and supporting information.

If you have not reported your injury, notify your employer and contact WCB at 204-954-4321 or use its online reporting options. Your employer’s report does not replace your own.

An assessment that considers your work

Your job demands matter. Lifting equipment, assisting patients, stocking shelves and sitting at a computer place different demands on your body.

At your first appointment, your physiotherapist will discuss your injury, assess relevant movement and function, and ask which tasks have become difficult. Together, you will identify meaningful recovery goals.

Supporting the documentation for your claim

Clear clinical information helps WCB understand your injury and rehabilitation needs. Physiotherapy reports document assessment findings, treatment recommendations, progress and work capabilities. Providers can also request additional treatment when appropriate.

Our team can explain the clinical information we provide and discuss the next steps if further physiotherapy is recommended. Approval remains WCB’s decision.

You can help by keeping a simple record of your symptoms, appointment dates, WCB correspondence and difficulties with specific tasks. For example, explaining that you cannot comfortably lift stock onto a shelf is more useful than saying that work feels difficult.

Direct billing and clear coverage information

St. James Rehab offers WCB direct billing options, subject to confirmation of your claim and authorized treatment.

Before your appointment, ask us about billing arrangements and any potential personal charges. During treatment, clarify how many visits are authorized and whether additional approval is needed before continuing.

A claim number alone does not confirm that every service is covered.

Rehabilitation focused on getting back to function

Your physiotherapy plan is built around your assessment and goals. It may include exercises, activity guidance, a home program and gradual practice of movements relevant to your work.

We review how you are progressing and what remains difficult. The aim is to help you rebuild the movement, strength and confidence needed for daily life and suitable work duties.

There is no single recovery timeline for every workplace injury. Your progress, job demands and clinical findings guide the plan.

Helping you work towards a safe return to work

Returning to work may involve temporary adjustments rather than immediately resuming every duty. Depending on your abilities, this could mean modified tasks, shorter shifts or restrictions.

Your physiotherapist’s assessment can help inform these discussions. WCB describes return-to-work planning as a partnership involving the worker, employer and healthcare provider, with WCB support when needed. Raise concerns if proposed duties conflict with your restrictions.

How soon can I get started?

Call us to discuss appointment availability and what needs to be confirmed for your WCB assessment.

WCB says claims reported by phone receive a claim number and adjudicator details; other reporting methods may take up to two business days for claim creation. This is not a treatment-approval deadline. Decisions depend on the information available and the complexity of the claim.
